At Integrated Health Centre we want our patients to be as comfortable as possible, especially during teeth cleaning appointments. Our Hygienist, Dena has tried to create a warm, welcoming and personalized sensory experience that includes customized music choice, aromatherapy and to finish off the treatment a warmed, steamy face cloth. She is comprehensive in her dental hygiene examination starting on the outside and working her way around your mouth to get a complete picture - answering your questions, explaining her findings and presenting an individualized plan of care.

What are Periodontal diseases?

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory oral disease that progressively destroys the tooth-supporting apparatus. It usually manifests as a worsening of gingivitis and then, if untreated, with loosening and loss of teeth as defined by Merck Manual Professional Version.

Poor oral health not limited to professional work but at home care as well, can lead to the beginning stages of periodontal disease which starts in the form of gingivitis. Some common signs to watch out for in your day to day include but are not limited to:

  1. Bleeding on brushing or flossing
  2. Redness
  3. Swelling
  4. Bad breathe

When it comes to your health, maintenance is key in order to catch these problems. Early intervention involving a dental hygienist in the treatment of gingivitis can in many cases assist in reversing the condition.

Periodontal diseases have been linked to many systematic diseases including cardiovascular, respiratory and diabetes.
