When a woman becomes pregnant, her entire body changes.

Some women have been known to contract conditions just while they are pregnant, and their body returns as it was once they have given birth.

From a nutritional standpoint, there are supplements that can help with pregnancy concerns, both for the mom and the baby. Here are our choices of supplements that support pregnancy:

Folic Acid

Offered at Integrated Health in tablet and liquid form.

Folic Acid is a B Vitamin that helps your baby grow. Folic Acid assists with positive development of the spine, brain and skull and is especially important during the first four weeks of pregnancy. As many women may not know they are pregnant at that time, it is a good idea to take Folic Acid during a time when you may become pregnant.

Folic Acid helps protect against neural tube defects which include abnormalities of the spine, brain or skull which lead to conditions such as still birth, disability or spina bifida. Pregnant women, or women wishing to become pregnant, should have 0.4 mg of folic acid daily.

Iron

Offered at Integrated Health in tablet and liquid form.

Iron helps the blood carry oxygen to both mom and baby. You want your baby to have enough iron to grow properly, and also to build up a good storage of iron after birth. You want to take 16-20 mg of iron, which can be taken separately or as part of a good multivitamin.

Calcium

Offered at Integrated Health in tablet, capsule and liquid form.

Calcium helps with bone growth and development for both mom and baby during pregnancy. Calcium helps the mom retain bone density when the baby uses calcium from the mother for it's own bone growth.

Iodine

Offered at Integrated Health in tablet and liquid form.

Many prenatal vitamins contain no Iodine, a supplement that is important for the prevention of pregnancy impairments. There has been pressure in the United States to ensure that Iodine is part of all prenatal vitamins, though that has not yet occurred. The recommendation is for 150 micrograms (.15 mg) of Potassium Iodine.
