Corrective Exercise is a multi-disciplinary approach to exercise programming that focuses on treating the body as a whole, incorporating the foundation principles of health into a client’s program to ensure results. It is a specialized approach to fitness and health that identifies and corrects muscle imbalances, postural dysfunctions, and faulty movement patterns to relieve pain, improve function, and enhance performance, and considers the lifestyle and dietary effects on a person’s health. This approach is suited to all populations aiming to restore healthy movement, prevent future injuries, and improve overall well-being for recreational and professional athletes, pre and postnatal women, seniors, special populations such as people with Parkinsons, MS, and all individuals looking to improve their health and fitness in their daily lives.

What to expect in your first visit

At your first appointment, expect to discuss your health history and goals, have your standing posture observed on a plumb line, and do a standing breathing assessment. The practitioner will also look at your gait (how you walk). This information will be used to help identify obvious imbalances, restrictions, or underlying issues that will determine where you need to start. Finally, you will receive an explanation of the findings and begin your initial personalized exercise programme.

The five main parts to the assessment:

  1. Client History
  2. Client Exam - Including Plumbline Assessment, Spinal Curvature and Breathing Assessment.
  3. Education - The first session typically addresses posture and breathing.
  4. Planning - Reviewing your goals, and creating an individualized exercise plan.
  5. Take-Home - Everyone's favourite part, the follow up care that is required to help you progress.

Corrective Exercise Specialists use a combination of exercise combinations to help you optimize your body

After taking a comprehensive history, postural and breathing assessment, and understanding your goals, the Corrective Exercise Specialists are able to create an individualized exercise plan that will help you achieve your goals. Think of it like learning to ride a bike. You have to walk before you can ride a bike - same goes with your body where you have to learn to breath and move properly before we can begin to use weights, ride a bike or just perform more optimally at your job.
